Dan Nagy,
I began my career back in the summer of 1980 at Quail Hollow Resort in Concord, Ohio. I quickly worked my way up through the ranks as a spray and irrigation tech. While working full time and attending night school, I graduated with a business degree in 1985. In 1986 I enrolled at The Ohio State University and graduated tops in my class, with a turfgrass management degree in 1987. I returned to Quail Hollow in June 1987 as the Assistant Superintendent and was there until early 1991.
From 1991 to 1995 I was the Landscape Superintendent at Cherokee Town & Country Club in Dunwoody, Georgia. This 2000-member private club was my most valuable experience for I gained vast knowledge in course construction. I learned how to build retaining walls, USGA specification golf greens, install irrigation, design/install new lanscapes, and grow-in a new golf hole.
After a short 18-month stint as the Assistant Superintendent at Brookstone Golf & Country Club in Acworth, Georgia, I obtained my first head superintendent position at Riverside Country Club in Menominee, Michigan in early 1997. Within a season we were able to significantly improve the course conditions. So much so that many longtime members complemented me that the course has never been in better condition. Over the next two years my staff and I continued to upgrade the property by adding new satellites and replacing antiquated pumpstation.
In late 1999 I accepted a superintendent position with Meadowbrook Golf at St. Croix National Golf Club in Somerset, Wisconsin. The course lacked much detail and over the next three years my staff and I completed many projects and made the course a more enjoyable golfing experience. In 2002 I was transferred to Silver Spring Country Club in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. I was at Silver Spring until Meadowbrook sold the property in late 2005.
